Maine Literary Award Finalist 2019!

That’s right. My novella, “The Collection” has been named a finalist for the 2019 Maine Literary Awards in Speculative fiction. This nomination will be my second with the Maine Literary Awards and I can’t wait to represent at the official ceremony in June with books in tow.

Beginning last year, I sort of “relaunched” my writing career, changing my website, booking new events, and launching a new book. I’ve been so happy with the results of this. However, I’ve also fallen into the no man’s land of not finding much time to write new material. I have nearly four short stories in the works, three novels, and a series I’d really like to write for Kindle exclusively. I’ve also got a house that’s falling apart, a full time job about to move into summer retail craziness, and family and friends to spend time with. Every writer’s quandary is trying to find time to write and do the other things that are important to them.

Oh, hey there. It’s been a while. Let me just say that I haven’t been spending this time away from the blog idly; much has been going on. So much that I don’t think you guys can handle it. Are you ready for the list of awesome things that I’ve made happen for you to indulge in? Get ready. Here it comes.

I have a ton of upcoming events scheduled in celebration of the release of “The Collection”! Book-signings and readings galore all beginning next month and going into the fall! Here’s just a few to get excited about:

Thursday June 28th at 6 PM at the Warren Public Library

Tuesday July 24th at 6 PM with authors E.J. Fechenda, Meg North, and Lynda Styles at Topsham Public Library

New England Authors Expo on July 25th at 4 PM @ Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers, MA

So much new stuff! But what am I working on now?

To be honest, I’ve been busying myself with marketing the new book and getting psyched up to appear at all these wonderful events. As far as new writing material goes, I’m currently trying my hand at a sci-fi tale that combines the desolation of Gravity with the story-telling aspect of Elegy for a Dead World. Not sure exactly where I’m going with it yet, but I’m letting the characters take me there. I also have a speculative detective fiction series in the works that takes place in a Santa Monica-esque locale and combines wit, murder, and monsters. Beast of Burden is the working title on this project and is at the forefront of my current WIP’s.

October Update (Yes…I know…I’m a lazy bum)

I know. Oh, believe me, I know.

It’s been months since the last update. I was thinking (hoping) I’d be on a more regular schedule following my move but it’s been harder than ever to stick to one. I’ve barely had time to write (a sentence I hope I never have to utter again) during these last several weeks. The house has required a butt-load of attention. I’ve been doing lots of painting, yard work, and decorating to make it feel more homey. It’s coming along. It won’t be done this year. It probably won’t be done next year. But at this point, I have a few rooms completed or nearly completed.

Writer Thoughts Thursday: Productivity

This week has been absolutely wonderful. I’ve had a chance almost every day to sit down and either write or edit and I couldn’t be happier about it. It goes without saying; being able to get your feelings and thoughts down on paper is a cathartic experience. When I have days (sometimes weeks) where I don’t have time to write, I start to get very upset and am often sad. This entire ordeal with la maison (yes, I found one!) has kept me on the go for several weeks, driving hither and thither to check on inspections and take education courses and sign documents. It’s all well worth it; I’ve just missed my time to myself.

Bangor Toy and Comic Con Recap

Yes. LONG TIME NO SEE!

I’ve been quite busy being sick, and working, and writing up a storm! While I haven’t made much way on the “finding a house” front, I’m still looking and hope to find something that will prove to be a lovely home for Lemon Jelly and I. I also spent the last weekend hanging out with fellow writing geeks (and possibly several freaks) at Bangor Toy and Comic Con!

This was my first time doing this particular Con, although I am no stranger to the Comic Con scene. I’ve done three now and have found that the experience only gets better and better. The first thing one should know about working a Comic Con is that there is a lot of visual stimuli, a feast for the eyes, if you will. I spent much of my two days observing the array of colorful costumes (some of which you cannot unsee) and soaking in the energized atmosphere.
